Alleghany County Rescue Squad: Multiple crashes reported in NC due to slick conditions

Crews said there were multiple crashes Sunday morning starting around 5 a.m. The chief of the Alleghany County Rescue Squad told WXII that all the crashes are weather related. Icy roads have been reported on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Officials told WXII that they responded to a crash around 9:20 a.m. near mile marker 217 in the Cumberland Knob Park area. One person was injured and had to be extracted from their vehicle, in a process that took about four minutes. The patient was then taken to the hospital by Alleghany County EMS. Rescue officials also told WXII that other crashes were reported on N.C. Highway 18 and U.S. 21. None of those crashes required patient transports.
